Date: Sat 16th and Sun 17th Feb 2019
Total Fee: $390 inc materials and GST
Tutor: Margo Anton
Learn how to create high end, precisely laid mosaic jewellery in this two day workshop. The first day begins with a comprehensive lecture and slide show on jewellery base selection, adhesive choice, and suitable tesserae, followed by a examination of design for jewellery and how it differs from standard mosaic design. Precision cutting, the key to fine mosaic jewellery, will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced. Jewellery laying techniques will be thoroughly covered, and students can expect lots of great tips! Class participants will receive lots of individual attention as they work on silver plate mosaic pendants using mosaic gold, smalti, filati, semiprecious stones, dichroic glass, and millefiori. On the second day, participants will hone their newfound skills in precision mosaic making while working on a more challenging second or even third project. A comprehensive handout will be provided, and participants should expect to depart with the knowledge and skills to create precision mosaic jewellery on their own. This workshop should particularly benefit participants of all levels who are wanting to learn to cut material more precisely, who want to add high end mosaic jewellery to their repertoire, or who are interested in learning to work in small scale mosaic.

Katherine hopes to encourage the question ‘what is art?’ through the introduction of ‘Social (arts) Practice’ across two days of coffee-printmaking, ceramic relief tile making and exploring performance as a means to engage others in the reception of such themes. These workshops become case studies for the social arts field of enquiry but mostly you will be engaged with hands-on activities. You will learn how to print actual coffee onto paper, hand-print your own coffee order (cappuccino etc...), design and print your own collographic plate, translate your design into a ceramic relief tile and potentially volunteer to participate in an exciting performance opportunity involving live printmaking at Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts Katoomba.
